Enter W3shastra. We built Rockstar a website that allowed visitors to experience the brand as well as make purchases. As part of their branding exercise, we also manage their blog and run their complete online marketing effort including SEO, social media, creatives for the same and a blog. We invest hours everyday into ensuring those who interact  with the Rockstar brand online have a great user experience at every touchpoint.

W3shastra was asked to step in and help level up the website in terms of design and content. This project was broken down into two phases, phase 1 being a complete redesign of their web properties and phas 2 being implementation of a more comprehensive content creation and content marketing strategy. Phase 1, the redesign, has been completed and now offers room for the website to showcase different kinds of media. Phase 2, the content management part, is an ongoing product which has already started yielding results in terms of a substantial revenue increase.

With these august words, let me declare that W3shastra is officially open for business! On July 1st, the things mentioned in the title were all that existed of W3shastra. Of course, the three of us have always been there but the place where we met to work, Sid’s basement, was little more than a large hall with waterproof walls and a warehouse like air. The company itself is over four years old, the incorporation of Sid’s long time dream but the frenzy of activity of the past few months is something that has robbed us of the 8 hour sleep cycles we so love. One day it was the three of us trying to work while throwing stuff for Flash [The Greatest Dog That Ever Lived] to chase after and then suddenly there were 13 more! We knew that things were getting serious when Sid chopped off his shoulder length locks, Dominic stopped cracking bad jokes and I spent considerably less time playing fooseball. Our days are now spent developing products and websites and marketing client portals and nights spent poring over excel sheets analyzing traffic trends and mapping expenses to projected incomes.

Starting a company is serious business but when you put three guys who can be accurately described as Creative (Sid), Also Creative (Dominic) and Awesome (self), its not too long before priorities change. Yes yes, work will continue, clients are God and we will honour all our commitments but we have decided the goal for August is to buy a pool table. There will be a Fooseball tournament to once and for all settle who the best in the office is and then the pool table with the profits from August will become the new avenue for the competitive minded.

As a report of this first month, the key learnings are as follows:

• Never trust a furniture salesman who says ‘Aap to mere bhai ho! Furniture kal tak aa jayega!’. [Tip Top Furnitures, Nampally, we will find you and then...talk...to you.]
• Making money is very important. Like duh.
• Sid is a great cook.
• Shakir is the Messi of the Fooseball world.
• I am awesome.
• Flash is officially The Greatest Dog That Ever Lived. We will get him a collar that says so.
• We need a senior PHP designer and two more content writers like yesterday. We also need more furniture, three more computers and a foolproof way to know whether someone is actually going to do what they promise to.

So that’s your lot for now. We think that the next month should find us comfortably settled in and with a few more people on board. To those of you who would came here hoping for something more serious and inspirational and which sort of defines this leap of faith we have taken, I leave you with the opening lines from Charles Bukowski’s Laughing Heart:

Your life is your life,

Your responsibilities would involve

• Creating original content for our community websites
• Brainstorming solutions to increase traffic to client websites
• Managing and curating an online community
• Keeping track of progress through continuous analysis

W3Shastra was asked to help out with the Design and Usability for this product. The focus was on building a simple and efficient system that enabled the user to do more in fewer clicks. We came out with a theme that matched the young, urban user base the product was targeting. We also developed the required HTML & CSS, using JQuery & Javascript to achieve the desired user-interaction.
